Snake River Sporting Club Reopens Tom Weiskopf Golf Course

The Tom Weiskopf-designed championship golf course at Snake River Sporting Club in Jackson Hole, Wyoming has officially reopened for play. Atlanta based Cygnus Capital now holds the reins of this premier private cub and western residential community. The 7,500-yard course layout makes a welcome return to this stunning Western landscape, uniquely set alongside the "Wild & Scenic" Snake River and bordered by the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

"With tremendous excitement surrounding a world-class golf course being back in operation after a five-year closure, our goal is to create a true Wyoming experience within a private club setting. This magnificent wilderness offers members and guests the opportunity to play golf as well as engage in many other outdoor activities like riding a horse, kayaking or throwing a line in the river," says Jeff Heilbrun, General Manager of Snake River Sporting Club.

After first appearing on the Wyoming landscape in 2007, Golf Digest acknowledged Snake River Sporting Club as the "No. 2 Best New Private Course in the U.S." With a strong layout firmly planted, Weiskopf was invited back to oversee the $5 million course rehabilitation that included replacing every green with bent grass and restoring all the bunkers.

Current practice facilities were enlarged to include a newly contoured putting and chipping green that provides a great warm-up area prior to teeing off. Weiskopf also designed a new 3,500 square foot short-game practice green adjacent the Clubhouse and first tee, surrounded by several bunkers and multiple pitching and chipping areas. As an added feature, this green can be played as a par-3 from the first tee.

"With its beautiful setting overlooking the Snake River, this is one of my favorite courses I have had the opportunity to design," says Tom Weiskopf. "The practice amenities will certainly provide members a great place to work on their short game and bunker play in a quiet setting."

This very walkable golf course lies in a picture-postcard setting lined with cottonwoods, aspens and native pines, and challenges golfers of all levels with two nines of varying character. While the first half winds through an extension of the 3.5 million acres of national forest bordering the property, the course begins to open up at the 9th hole for play along the natural river bottom. With 18 signature holes, the visually stunning par-3, 12th hole playing over water with a mountain backdrop and elevated cart paths traversing through the wetlands is, arguably, the top choice.

Members and guests can unwind after a round at the recently completed Clubhouse, a 26,000-square-foot square log and stone facility with a Sports Shop, restaurant and grill room, locker rooms and a furnished outdoor deck for dining and relaxing while admiring the beautiful scenery and native wildlife, including elk, deer, osprey and bald eagles.

Additional enhancements include the unveiling of turnkey luxury lodge cabins this spring. Available for purchase starting at $2.5 million (includes Club membership), the three new "Martin Creek Cabins" are located above the banks of Martin Creek and offer ideal proximity to all of Snake River Sporting Club's indoor-outdoor amenities.
